Mandela Day 2025 series
20% of the sale will be donated to the NSPCA.
The second painting in our Mandela Day 2025 collection honours Bruce, a military horse caught in a system that forgot him. Once under the care of the South African National Defence Force, Bruce suffered from extreme neglect — thin, fearful, and emotionally shut down. He bore the weight of trauma no animal should ever have to carry. But Bruce’s story took a different turn. Rescued by the NSPCA and adopted by Anneri Henning, Bruce was given something rare: time,
space, and unconditional care. No longer expected to serve, perform, or obey, he began to rediscover what it meant to feel safe. Now, nearly seven years later, Bruce lives peacefully on a farm — free to roam, rest, and enjoy his favourite snacks. No reins. No saddles. Just trust, gently rebuilt. This painting honours not only Bruce’s transformation but the quiet revolution that happens when compassion meets patience.
